Funding to women-founded startups declined 12% in 2024, but that wasn’t far behind the broader market


Venture investment to startups founded by women in Europe declined 12% in 2024, but it was in line with the 11% decrease in venture investment overall.

Venture investment in startups run by women has always lagged the overall market, and with companies across sectors cutting back on their diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, things seem grimmer than ever for female founders. “I started the index because I realized that the oft-quoted 2% figure about the number of female-founded startups is not detailed enough,” Agata Nowicka, founder of Female Foundry and the author of the report, told TechCrunch. He has interviewed Tony Blair, Dmitry Medvedev, Kevin Spacey, Lily Cole, Pavel Durov, Jimmy Wales, and many other tech leaders and celebrities.
