Gartner says add AI agents ASAP - or else. Oh, and they're also overhyped

Gartner contradicts its own messaging on AI agents, so what's a company to do? For one thing, don't be pressured into risky, rash decisions by crazy talk.

Malte Mueller/fStop/Getty Images Gartner predicts 40% of apps will add AI agents by 2026. Business leaders face hype-driven pressure to act within months. The analyst firm also predicts that agentic AI will "drive approximately 30% of enterprise application software revenue by 2035, surpassing $450 billion, up from 2% in 2025." Statements that provoke business leaders to push through initiatives in three to six months, most likely without the proper level of deliberation, caution, and impact analysis can cause serious harm.
