John Hopfield at Princeton and Geoffrey Hinton at University of Toronto honoured for work on artificial neural networks

The Nobel prize in physics has been awarded to two researchers for their groundbreaking work on machines that learn. John Hopfield at Princeton University and Geoffrey Hinton at the University of Toronto were honoured for their pioneering work on artificial neural networks which underlie much of modern artificial intelligence. The Nobel committee said the prize was given “for foundational discoveries and inventions that enable machine learning with artificial neural networks”.
