Google Bard rebrands as ‘Gemini’ with new Android app and Advanced model

The move appears to show Google’s bid to make Gemini the face of its AI experience. The company rolled out its most capable models yet with this name back in December and has since been pushing the LLMs across its products, including Bard.

In a blog post announcing the rebrand, Sissie Hsiao, Vice President and General Manager for Google Assistant and Bard, notes that the revamped chatbot will now come with a toggle to switch to ‘Gemini Advanced’, designed to deliver state-of-the-art performance on complex tasks with the Ultra 1.0 model. “With our Ultra 1.0 model, Gemini Advanced is far more capable at highly complex tasks like coding, logical reasoning, following nuanced instructions and collaborating on creative projects. In addition to Gemini Advanced, Google is also pushing its chatbot experience to mobile devices by rolling it out on Android and iOS phones in the U.S. in English.
