Google Maps is improving your location data privacy - but there's a catch

Here's how to save your data from deletion before the changes roll out in December.

Lance Whitney/ZDNETGoogle is making some big changes to Maps that will affect anyone who uses the app to plan trips, get directions, and access previous destinations. Google also noted that the Location History feature, a log that shows you all the places you've visited in the past, will now be called Timeline. Since the location data on your Timeline will now come directly from your mobile device, the information will no longer be accessible on your computer via the Google Maps website.
