Google Updates Its Search Algorithm to Tackle AI Deepfakes

Google warns that sexually explicit deepfakes are on the rise, and a solution is needed.

Google is updating its search engine's algorithm and its removal request process to better combat unwanted sexually explicit AI deepfakes of people, the tech giant announced Wednesday. The board found that the social media giant should have removed both images, and argues that Meta should stop relying so heavily on news reports of deepfakes spreading online and take more proactive actions instead. Last month, Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) proposed the Take It Down Act, which would make publishing non-consensual sexual deepfakes a federal crime and force social media platforms to remove them.
