Google, DPI back African fintech Moniepoint in $110M round


Google's African Investment Fund is a new investor in African fintech Moniepoint, which just closed $110 million in new financing led by DPI.

According to the Financial Times, the round makes Moniepoint a unicorn, that is, a private company with a valuation of $1 billion or more. The profitable fintech now claims to process over 800 million transactions, with a monthly total value exceeding US$17 billion. The nine-year-old fintech recently made a foray into the personal banking market and claims to have experienced 20x customer growth over the past year.
