Hackers Weaponize Old Avast Driver to Install Windows Malware

Researchers find a type of malware that uses kernel-level permissions to take over a PC.

This "Kill Floor" malware drops a copy of the kernel-level Avast driver, which allows it to continue its attack by disabling critical security systems on Windows PCs. But scammers and attackers may also pose as companies consumers may trust, with the ultimate goal of stealing your data and funds or tricking you into sending them money or giving them access to your computer. If you're tech-savvy and looking for a solution, Trellix proposes using a specific Bring Your Own Vulnerable Driver (BYOVD) rule to prevent this attack from occurring on your PC.
