Honda, Nissan to consider building vehicles at each other's plants
Honda Motor Co. and Nissan Motor Co. will consider launching a manufacturing partnership in which they will build vehicles at each other's plants, according to a source close to the matter.
The firms are prepared to work together in a wide range of areas, but Honda is asking Nissan to achieve a V-shaped recovery in its performance as a condition for the merger, while bolstering cooperation in the EV field, the sources said. Taiwan's electronics giant Foxconn, meanwhile, is in talks with Renault SA, the largest shareholder of Nissan, to acquire the French car manufacturer's stake in the Japanese automaker, another source close to the matter said. Nissan now predicts an operating profit of 150 billion yen ($958.7 million) for fiscal 2024, down more than 70 percent from the previous forecast in July, as it does not have hybrid models for sale in the United States, despite their popularity there.
