How Adobe is managing the AI copyright dilemma, with general counsel Dana Rao


Adobe’s top lawyer discusses the failed Figma deal and the future of AI.

Adobe is at the center of that debate with something it calls the Content Authenticity Initiative, and I am proud to say Decoder is the sort of podcast where a viral deepfake of the pope dripped out in a puffer jacket is described as a catalyzing event in tech policy. And the idea of that is it would give artists a right to enforce against people who are intentionally impersonating their work for commercial gain with the typical fair use factors, allowing exceptions. When we started our AI ethics program four years ago, we had set up principles for Adobe to follow, and those are accountability, responsibility, and transparency, which spells ART, which was really important.
