How did sports betting become legal in the US?


In 2018, the Supreme Court repealed a 26-year federal ban on sports betting. This ruling unleashed the biggest gambling boom in America’s 249-year history. How did that happen?

In 1992, New Jersey Senator and former basketball player Bill Bradley sponsored a Federal law called PASPA, the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act. In response to the crackdown, FanDuel and DraftKings hired Jeremy Kudon, a partner at Orrick, a New York law firm that lobbies legislatures on behalf of clients. Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett were all part of the Federalist Society at different periods, and groomed to be Supreme Court justices.
