Beginning in 2008, Usain Bolt began shattering world records at sprint distances, with his fastest time ever in the 100 meters of 9.58 seconds, set in 2009, standing for nearly 15 years at present. Weyand et al., Journal of Applied Physiology, 2010 US Sprinter Christian Coleman is one of the fastest starters and accelerators in sprint history, and is arguably the world’s most superior runner at distances of 60 meters and under. Although paralympians are not yet competitive with fully limbed humans over the shortest race sprint distances, there are anatomical advantages that prosthetics offer that may someday lead to them surpassing the current world record.
