How to schedule your Mac to start up and shut down on its own

Who wants to touch a power button anymore?

If that bothers you (and you’re not into flipping it upside down so it looks like it’s wearing a little hat), you can automate when it starts up and shuts down by creating a power schedule. It’s a daunting task if you haven’t messed with command line interfaces, and Apple’s support instructions for setting up power scheduling this way aren’t very helpful. If you can’t find it, try pressing ⌘ (command) + spacebar to summon Spotlight search, type “Terminal,” and hit enter.
