How to send messages via satellite on your iPhone or Pixel

How to use satellite messaging with iPhones and Pixel phones

People affected by Hurricane Helene have posted on social media to share how this service helped them get the word out that they were okay following the disaster. You’ll need to do some things before you can use the iPhone’s satellite messaging (see below), but it works with iMessage or SMS, provided you’re in the US or Canada, your SIM card is active, and your carrier supports it. (Google adds that connection and response times will vary based on “location, site conditions, and other factors.”) Stay outside in clear view of the sky while you wait for an emergency service provider to reply via text.
