So when attackers successfully breached Twilio through a recent phishing campaign, they were able to access those SMS codes for some 1,900 Signal accounts and potentially register a victim’s phone number with their own device. Google says it keeps smart replies private by processing them locally on your device, but the safest bet is to limit Signal’s interactions with the rest of the operating system. Just remember, as you get used to the advanced settings and figure out what combination of disappearing messages and screen locking works for you, that you’ve already taken the most important step of all: downloading Signal in the first place.
