A labor-management dispute at IBM Japan over personnel evaluations using artificial intelligence (AI) is now resolved under a landmark agreement. The labor union will play a monitoring role to ensure transparency, as domestic laws and regulations are not yet in place regarding the use of AI in labor-management relations. The labor union had cited a number of problems, such as invasion of privacy, discrimination and automation bias, in which humans place too much faith in decisions taken by AI.
