New legislation went into effect in Illinois on January 1 that allows the Secretary of State’s office to issue digital ID cards and driver’s licenses for the first time. In a press release today, Illinois Secretary Alexi Giannoulias confirmed that the state will launch support for IDs in Apple Wallet by the end of the year. This is the first component of a multi-faceted approach to deliver a state-of-the-art mobile driver’s license and state ID program that leverages best-in-class technology for residents.”
