But FreeNAS 8.0 was a complete rewrite which iXsystems took to a very different direction and required lots of RAM to use ZFS which I couldn't justify price-wise for a home NAS, so I moved to NAS4Free and eventually to Ubuntu server. Proxmox is known for thrashing consumer SSDs, and as I also use this storage as temporary location for all my new media files, it gets written to A LOT(hence why the previous drive which was a Samsung 870 EVO died). On the other hand, it makes me incredibly sad to look at a product which was manufactured in 2017 and realise that nearly 8 years later, nothing comes close to it in terms of write endurance or real-world performance.
