Throughout 2010, the average sales for PCs crossed the 1 million per day mark, the PC market grew by 17% globally, Internet traffic was greater than all previous years combined, and Intel benefited greatly. At the 2009 Intel Developer Forum, the company introduced Light Peak with a prototype Mac Pro running two 1080p video streams, LAN, and storage devices over a single optical cable measuring approximately 30 meters terminated with a variation on USB. The acquisition made little sense to many at the time, but McAfee had around $1.93 billion in subscription revenue, Intel was trying to diversify, trying build a software ecosystem around their products, and security had been a growing concern in PC market since the advent of the Web.
