iPadOS 26: Testing the new local capture for podcasting

If you’re podcaster, I’ll bet your ears perked up when Apple announced local capture for iPadOS 26. Jason Snell already tested it out.

If you’re a creator or podcaster, I’ll bet your ears perked up towards the end of the WWDC25 keynote, when Apple announced that built-in local audio and video capture during calls would be coming to iPadOS 26. What I mean by that is that rather than fully unlocking simultaneous mic access for multiple apps (like in the Mac), Apple is taking a more measured and privacy-centered approach, to avoid abuse. Snell notes a couple of missing niceties (like real-time audio level monitoring and gain adjustment controls for different mics), but those are the kind of things Apple could still refine before the public release.
