It’s Election Day, and all the AIs — but one — are acting responsibly

X's chatbot, Grok, is claiming that former president Donald Trump has already won several battleground states.

Ahead of the polls closing on Tuesday, most of the major AI chatbots wouldn’t answer questions about U.S. presidential election results. However, unlike OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, and Anthropic’s Claude, Grok did not outright refuse to answer — opening it up to hallucinations. Within hours of President Joe Biden’s announcement that he would suspend his presidential bid, Grok began answering questions about Harris’ eligibility with the misleading claim that the ballot deadlines had passed in nine states.
