Japan along with leading Western nations are beginning to take action to reduce their dependence on Russian nuclear fuel by seeking to build an independent supply chain.

Japan along with leading Western nations are beginning to take action to reduce their dependence on Russian nuclear fuel by seeking to build an independent supply chain. Japan, the United States, Britain, France and Canada said in a joint statement in December that they “resolve to establish a resilient global uranium supply market free from Russian influence.” The five countries had agreed, when the Group of Seven Ministers’ Meeting on Climate, Energy and Environment was held in Sapporo in April last year, to work together to ensure the supply of nuclear fuel to reduce their dependence on Russia.
