Linux Improvements Boost AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7000 Series Performance Since Launch
With the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 9000 series having just been announced at Computex, it's a good time to revisit the Ryzen Threadripper 7000 series performance ahead of those Zen 5 HEDT CPUs launching in July.
Today's article is looking at the original AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7970X and 7980X benchmarks carried out on launch day back in November 2023 compared to the latest performance now in May 2025 with an up-to-date Linux software stack as well as the newest BIOS. The same components were used for that testing then and now with the ASUS PRO WS TRX50-SAGE WIFI motherboard, AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics, 4 x 32GB DDR5-4800 GSKILL Ripjaws S5 ECC memory, and 1TB WD_BLACK SN850X NVME SSD. Again, the same exact hardware was used for this comparison with simply having the latest BIOS and Ubuntu Linux software improvements deployed to this Threadripper 7000 series HEDT workstation.
