Linux RNDIS Removal Branch Updated For Disabling Microsoft RNDIS Protocol Drivers
There's activity again around potentially disabling and then ultimately removing the RNDIS Linux kernel code for those drivers complying with the Microsoft Remote Network Driver Interface Specification (RNDIS) protocol specification
Back in January 2023 was a proposal to disable all of the RNDIS kernel drivers given the security implications of Remote NDIS. This week Greg Kroah-Hartman updated his " rndis-removal" Git branch within the USB.git repository for where all of the Linux kernel's USB subsystem code is staged. "The Microsoft RNDIS protocol is, as designed, insecure and vulnerable on any system that uses it with untrusted hosts or devices.
