Mac Mini G4 – The best « classic » Macintosh for retro-gaming?
The Mac Mini G4 promises to be compatible with almost every Macintosh software released until the early 2000s. This article explains why and puts the machine to the test.
When it was clear that the 68000 was losing steam, Apple explored ways to use a RISC processor in a Mac OS machine, more -than a year prior to the AIM alliance announcement. Furthermore, many other existing Mac applications performed their floating point calculus using the SANE( Standard Apple Numerics Environment) library, which was optimized for the PowerPC and ran better in the emulator than on a 68040 Macintosh. Of course, Sound Blaster prevailed, but the clone had to be compatible at the hardware level and you won’t find a card today that is the perfect solution to cover every MS DOS game.
