Major capacitor breakthrough could usher microelectronics with 170 times higher power density
Scientists at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and UC Berkeley have created "microcapacitors" that address this shortcoming, as highlighted in a study published in Nature. Made from engineered...
The idea isn't exactly new, but current technology has struggled to meet the requirements of storing sufficient energy in a compact space while also delivering it rapidly. The technology could help meet the growing demand for miniaturized energy storage in microdevices such as IoT, edge computing systems, and AI processors. "With this technology, we can finally start to realize energy storage and power delivery seamlessly integrated on-chip in very small sizes," said Suraj Cheema, one of the leading authors of the paper.
