Majority of Americans think social media firms have too much power, finds survey


Most Americans are wary of social media companies and their role in politics and the future of the country, according to a new survey.

“Roughly eight-in-ten Americans (78%) say these companies have too much power and influence in politics today,” according to the survey of 10,133 U.S. adults which was conducted between February 7 – 11, 2024. With conversations around regulation being rife this year, with the potential for apps like TikTok to be banned in the coming months, the long-running debate about what the government should do has become tense.
