I've found it to be insanely satisfying to write code that translates into real-world, physical machines completing tasks intelligently. Again, I asked around and my coworker recommended I use Onshape, a web-based CAD program that you can use for free, given that you don't mind your designs being public for the world to see. So, I asked around at work, and my colleague just found a random power adapter that read 12V, cut the connector off it, stripped the wires, put some clips onto it, and handed it to me.
