It’s known today as Pascal’s Triangle, although it was independently discovered earlier in Persia, India, China, and other parts of the world. Blaise Pascal and Pierre de Fermat exchanged letters about gambling problems, specifically, how to divide winnings if a game ends early fairly. So Blaise, his curiosity raised by his dad's decision to ban math books from the house, took it upon himself to start working on geometry at the age of 12.
