Meta's Facebook Messenger hit with layoffs amid ongoing 'efficiency' push

CEO Mark Zuckerberg has made his efficiency mantra permanent, leading to incremental cuts at Meta this year.

Messenger, the popular direct messaging app within Facebook, was hit with a round of layoffs this week, according to two people familiar with the company. After Instagram removed the TPM position, other parts of Meta, including the Facebook organization where Messenger sits, were expected to do the same, BI reported. This has led to a culture shift within Meta, with some managers taking pride in finding places to cut costs or slim down teams.
