Meta's Tiramisu and Boba prototype headsets deliver hyperrealistic VR that the Quest 4 can't match

The Quest 4 may not hit 90 PPD, 1,400 nits, or 180-degree FoV, but Meta's prototypes at SIGGRAPH 2025 are lighting the path for it to follow.

Reality Labs' Optics, Photonics, and Light Systems (OPALS) team has created Tiramisu, a prototype VR headset that hits 90 pixels per degree (PPD), 1,400 nits, and triple the contrast ratio of the Quest 3. Boba 3 "requires a top-of-the-line GPU and PC system" to fill all of that visual space; it's "not going to easily hit a mass-market price point," nor work as an all-in-one Quest-type product. Channeling his love of running, he established himself as an expert on fitness watches, testing and reviewing models from Garmin, Fitbit, Samsung, Apple, COROS, Polar, Amazfit, Suunto, and more.
