Microsoft adds new restrictions to Designer AI used to make Taylor Swift deepfakes


Microsoft has updated its free, online Designer AI image generator to prevent users from creating more images resembling celebrities...

The updates came after an explicit series of deepfakes of musician Taylor Swift, which 404 also traced back to Microsoft’s Designer AI, began circulating on X, Reddit, and various other website and social platforms last week, in violation of Microsoft’s Services Agreement, which states “Don’t publicly display or use the Services to generate or share inappropriate content or material (involving, for example, nudity, bestiality, pornography, offensive language, graphic violence, self-harm, or criminal activity).” He additionally signaled some lukewarm support for collaborating with lawmakers around the issue of AI deepfakes, though stopped short of calling for a new bill or new laws.
