Microsoft releases recovery tool to help repair Windows machines hit by CrowdStrike issue

The tool uses a USB drive to speed up recovery.

By Tom Warren, a senior editor and author of Notepad, who has been covering all things Microsoft, PC, and tech for over 20 years. The tool creates a bootable USB drive that IT admins can use to help quickly recover impacted machines. Microsoft’s recovery tool now makes this recovery process less manual, by booting into its Windows PE environment via USB, accessing the disk of the affected machine, and automatically deleting the problematic CrowdStrike file to allow the machine to boot properly.
