Microsoft says OpenAI is now a competitor in AI and search
What once was a strategic, long-term partnership between the world's biggest software company and an AI startup has morphed into something more complicated.
Microsoft has a long-term partnership with OpenAI, serving as its exclusive cloud provider and using its AI models in products for commercial clients and consumers. In the filing, Microsoft identified OpenAI, the creator of the ChatGPT chatbot, as a competitor in AI offerings and in search and news advertising. In March, Nadella brought on Mustafa Suleyman, a co-founder of DeepMind, an AI research company that predated OpenAI and was acquired by Google in 2014.
