Microsoft to cut up to 9,000 more jobs as it invests in AI
The US tech giant will axe 4% of its global workforce and plough money into artificial intelligence.
A spokesperson for the firm told the BBC: "We continue to implement organisational changes necessary to best position the company for success in a dynamic marketplace." In recent years, along with its counterparts in Big Tech, Microsoft has pivoted its attention towards the develop of AI, including investing in datacentres and chips. Microsoft is also a major investor and shareholder in OpenAI, the company behind the popular chatbot ChatGPT, although the relationship has reportedly grown tense in recent months.
