Minecraft won't go free-to-play, because it simply wasn't built that way


While some developers have made the switch to free to play, such as Blizzard with the launch of Overwatch 2, Mojang won't be doing the same with Minecraft.

Watch on YouTube When the topic of a hypothetical free-to-play Minecraft came up, the executive producer said the studio "built the game for a different purpose" and therefore, "monetisation doesn't work in that way for us".
