MIT spinout uses engines to turn trash gas into green fuel factories

MIT spinout Emvolon transforms methane into green methanol and ammonia, offering scalable, on-site solutions for low-carbon liquid fuels.

Emvolon’s systems convert methane into liquid fuels like methanol and ammonia on-site, enabling use or transport in standard truck containers for versatile energy solutions. The system integrates additional processing steps adjacent to the engine, enabling the synthesis of chemicals like methanol directly on-site. The modular systems are cost-effective, requiring $1–10 million in investments and weeks to deploy, contrasting with traditional chemical plants that involve multiyear, high-cost construction projects.
