Most high schools in a London borough are banning smartphones. A principal explains how the plan took shape.
More than a dozen government-funded middle and high schools in a London borough have announced a collective initiative to ban smartphones.
Headteachers made the announcement shortly after found that between 2020 and 2022, there was a 52% rise in children's screen time, and almost a quarter of young people used their smartphones in a way that's consistent with addiction. He said moms and dads have been instrumental in setting up group chats with like-minded parents and guardians eager to avoid buying these devices for kids. The kids are largely aged between 11 to 14, but a handful of schools have said they will roll out the program to all pupils from September onwards in a bid to tackle mental health issues, bullying, sleep concerns, and inappropriate access to graphic content.
