The low-cost system that rapidly and easily aids microbial detection in water could help save millions of lives annually in developing countries.

These include the availability and stability of the power supply, managing the pressure and streamlining the flow from the pipelines, a more robust housing, and regular cleaning of the optical windows to remove the fouling. With my creative spirit and eye for detail, I've worked across the dynamic landscape of multimedia journalism and written about sports, lifestyle, art, culture, health and wellbeing at Further Magazine, Alt.Cardiff and The Hindu. They are now converting the technology into a lensless dip-in handheld system (left) that could be useful for testing water quality in the traditional natural stone spouts widely used by people in Kathmandu Valley in Nepal (background).
