New Senate bill would provide path for victims of nonconsensual AI deepfakes
The legislation would criminalize the spread of sexualized AI-generated images.
Senate majority whip Dick Durbin explained in a press release that the bill's quick introduction was spurred explicitly by the viral images of Swift, and the White House's demand for accountability. In a statement from White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Jan. 26, the Biden administration expressed its desire for Congress to address deepfake proliferation amid weak enforcement from social media platforms.
