New wearable robot walks to disabled people, fits itself autonomously
Researchers have unveiled a new wearable robot that independently walks to and docks with paralyzed users, enabling them to wear it without assistance.
It also implements a function that actively controls its center of weight against the pull of gravity, allowing it to maintain balance without falling over, even if the user pushes the robot. The balance control performance was enhanced to enable the free use of both hands while standing upright and to allow several steps to be taken without a cane. The output density of the motor and reducer modules has been improved approximately twofold (based on the power-to-weight ratio) compared to the research team’s existing technology.
