CAPITAL REGION, NY (WRGB) — New laws take effect in New York starting Wednesday to protect New Yorkers under 18 from harmful social media algorithms. It also restricts notifications from addictive feeds between midnight and 6 a.m. without such permission, helping to address the disruption of sleep caused by late-night social media usage. “The research shows that these logarithms can lead to increased rates of depression, anxiety, and a number of other problematic issues that we have seen arise, especially among younger users of social media,” said Rotterdam Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbra.
