Trevor Milton, the founder of bankrupt hydrogen trucking startup Nikola who was convicted of fraud, has been pardoned by President Trump, the White House confirmed to TechCrunch. Prosecutors from the Southern District of New York charged Milton in July 2021, claiming that he had made “false and misleading statements regarding Nikola’s product and technology development,” on social media and in TV, print, and podcast interviews. He previously worked at The Verge, where he also covered consumer technology, hosted many short- and long-form videos, performed product and editorial photography, and once nearly passed out in a Red Bull Air Race plane.
