NJ Lawmakers hear calls to restrict pornography access

Speakers told the Republican-led panel Monday that age verification technology can and should gatekeep access to pornography.

(Hal Brown for New Jersey Monitor) Assemblyman Jay Webber (R-Morris), who chaired the hearing, is sponsoring a bill that would require more robust and invasive age verification methods for sites where a substantial amount of the content is sexual in nature. Assemblyman Michael Inganamort (R-Morris), another panel member, is sponsoring a separate bill that would require electronics manufacturers to block access to sites with obscene material. Webber’s bill bars age verification firms from retaining consumers’ identifying information after they’ve been granted access to a restricted site.
