Noninvasive brain stimulation device can help treat depression, PTSD, addiction | Brain scientists have developed DeepFocus, a novel technique to reach the deep brain without invasive surgery to treat mental health disorders.

Brain scientists have developed DeepFocus, a novel technique to reach the deep brain without invasive surgery to treat mental health disorders.

The novel DeepFocus technique, developed by Carnegie Mellon University and Allegheny Health Network, seeks to modify the current system that electrically treats the reward circuitry in the brain. But neuroscience wants to be able to access critical structures at the bottom of the brain to tackle depression, PTSD, OCD, addiction, and substance abuse disorders that are increasingly plaguing Americans in the United States. “Our minimally invasive, low-risk approach, which can be implemented in an outpatient setting, presents a scalable and widely applicable solution,” senior author Pulkit Grover told Medical Express.
