This feature allowed both Novell and third parties to release add-on software with new capabilities such as database servers, backup solutions, anti-virus programs, mail, groupware suites, and much more. This included things like read-after-write verification, bad-block remapping done during the course of normal operation, software RAID, transaction tracking (so an incomplete write could be reversed), and support for up to four network cards in concurrent use.
