OpenAI is now valued at $157 billion


OpenAI has nearly doubled what investors think it’s worth—but there’s a catch.

In June, OpenAI hired its first chief financial officer, Sarah Friar, who played an important role in organizing this funding round, according to the WSJ. The Wall Street Journal notes that OpenAI has seen its valuation rise to a level comparable with publicly traded companies like Goldman Sachs, Uber, and AT&T. But as more investors want to hop aboard OpenAI's train to AGI town, switching to a fully for-profit company has now become a key part of that plan.
