OpenAI Shuts Down Developer Who Made AI-Powered Gun Turret
The DIY robot used ChatGPT's Realtime API to respond to commands to aim and fire a rifle.
“Soldiers who were poorly trained in using the technology attacked human targets without corroborating Lavender’s predictions at all” the story reads, referring to a piece of AI software. Proponents of AI on the battlefield say it will make soldiers safer by allowing them to stay away from the frontlines and neutralize targets, like missile stockpiles, or conduct reconnaissance from a distance. Add on top of that the ability to 3D print weapons parts —which is what law enforcement believes was done by alleged UnitedHealthcare shooter Luigi Mangione—and it is becoming shockingly easy to build DIY autonomous killing machines from the comfort of ones home.
