Over 300 New 'Nazca Lines' Geoglyphs Have Been Revealed by AI
A team of archaeologists using advanced AI software have identified over 300 previously identified Nazca Lines geoglyphs.
“These are i) calendar and astronomy, ii) geometry, iii) agriculture and irrigation, iv) movement or communication, including walking, running, and dancing, and v) artistic expression,” they write. When asked whether there was any additional archeological evidence supporting these two uses, Sakai said previous studies had found other artifacts that could offer credence to these mysterious artworks’ larger, community-wide ceremonial aspect. The study “AI-accelerated Nazca survey nearly doubles number of known figurative geoglyphs and sheds light on their purpose” was published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
