Perplexity will show live US election results despite AI accuracy warnings

AI search engine embraces 2024 US election with live tracker and chatbot info hub.

"Starting Tuesday, we'll be offering live updates on elections using data from The Associated Press so you can stay informed on presidential, senate, and house races at both a state and national level," Perplexity wrote in a blog post. The office of New York Attorney General Letitia James tested multiple AI chatbots with voting-related questions and found they "frequently provided inaccurate information in response." A July study by the Center for Democracy and Technology found that five AI chatbots (Mixtral 8x7B v0.1, Gemini 1.5 Pro, ChatGPT-4, Claude 3 Opus, and Llama 2 70) gave incorrect information in more than one-third of responses to 77 election-related questions.
